The roots of A Class in Miracles can be tracked back to the effort between two individuals, Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, equally of whom were outstanding psychologists and researchers. The course's inception happened in early 1960s when Schucman, who had been a medical and research psychologist at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, started to experience some internal dictations. She defined these dictations as coming from an internal style that determined itself as Jesus Christ. Schucman originally resisted these activities, but with Thetford's inspiration, she started transcribing the messages she received.

Around a period of seven years, Schucman transcribed what might become A Course in Miracles, amounting to three sizes: the Text, the Workbook for Students, and the Manual for Teachers. The Text lies out the theoretical foundation of the class, elaborating on the core concepts and principles. The Workbook for acim includes 365 classes, one for every time of the year, developed to steer the reader by way of a daily exercise of using the course's teachings. The Information for Educators offers further advice on the best way to realize and train the concepts of A Program in Miracles to others.

Among the central themes of A Class in Wonders is the notion of forgiveness. The program shows that true forgiveness is the main element to inner peace and awakening to one's heavenly nature. Based on their teachings, forgiveness isn't only a ethical or honest practice but a fundamental shift in perception. It requires letting go of judgments, grievances, and the understanding of sin, and instead, seeing the world and oneself through the lens of love and acceptance. A Program in Wonders highlights that correct forgiveness results in the acceptance that individuals are all interconnected and that separation from each other is definitely an illusion.

Yet another significant aspect of A Program in Wonders is its metaphysical foundation. The course gift ideas a dualistic view of fact, unique between the confidence, which presents divorce, fear, and illusions, and the Holy Soul, which symbolizes enjoy, reality, and religious guidance. It shows that the confidence is the foundation of suffering and conflict, while the Sacred Heart provides a pathway to therapeutic and awakening. The target of the class is to help persons transcend the ego's limited perception and arrange with the Holy Spirit's guidance.
