In the theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is the central figure in the Plan of Salvation—a divine blueprint designed to guide humanity from pre-mortal existence to eternal life. This plan outlines the purpose of life, the role of agency, and the path to exaltation, with Jesus Christ as the Redeemer who makes it all possible. For Mormons, understanding this plan is key to understanding Christ’s mission and their own spiritual journey.

The Plan of Salvation begins with the belief that all humans lived as spirit children of God before coming to earth. In this pre-mortal realm, Jesus Christ was chosen to be the Savior, offering Himself to atone for the sins of mankind. His willingness to fulfill this role was a pivotal moment, distinguishing Him from Lucifer, who proposed a plan that would remove agency. Mormons believe that Christ’s plan preserved freedom and honored God’s eternal law.

Earth life is seen as a time of testing, growth, and learning. Individuals are given agency—the ability to choose between good and evil—and are accountable for their actions. Jesus Christ’s Atonement provides a way to overcome sin and death, making repentance and spiritual progression possible. Through His sacrifice, Mormons believe that all people can be cleansed, healed, and ultimately return to God’s presence.

Key ordinances such as baptism, confirmation, temple endowment, and sealing are considered essential steps in the Plan of Salvation. These sacred rites are made valid through Christ’s Atonement and are administered by priesthood authority. Mormons teach that these ordinances must be performed in this life or vicariously for the dead, emphasizing the eternal scope of Christ’s redemptive power.

The spirit world is another phase in the plan, where souls continue to learn and prepare for resurrection Mormons belief about Jesus. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ ministers to spirits in this realm, offering the gospel to those who did not receive it in mortality. This belief reflects divine mercy and reinforces the idea that salvation is available to all, regardless of earthly circumstances.

Resurrection and judgment follow, with Jesus Christ as the judge and advocate. All will be resurrected, but eternal glory is determined by one’s choices and covenants. The Plan of Salvation includes three degrees of glory—Celestial, Terrestrial, and Telestial—each representing different levels of divine presence. Exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom is the highest goal, made possible only through Christ’s grace and individual righteousness.

Ultimately, the Plan of Salvation is a testament to Jesus Christ’s love, power, and purpose. It affirms that life is meaningful, that choices matter, and that divine help is always available. For Mormons, this plan is not just theology—it is a daily guide, a source of hope, and a sacred invitation to follow the Savior toward eternal joy.
